Satan Is NOT Your Friend

There was a time in my life when I indulged in all of the things that I thought the world had to offer me. I gave into every desire, lust, and temptation that was in my heart. I partied. I was promiscuous. I was selfish. I was rebellious. I was greedy. I was self-destructive, but I had the perception that I was living my life to the fullest. I was completely deceived by someone who weaseled his way into my life and disguised himself as my friend and as harmless fun. Sometimes I am still deceived, but my prayer for you and for me is that the Lord will open our eyes to the ways that Satan deceives us.

Most people imagine Satan as being a frightening monster-like creature. In reality, Satan appears as everything that the world says is beautiful and luxurious. If he were to be in human form, he would probably resemble your image of a dream guy. After all, Satan was once an angel. However, Satan, a fallen angel, is the most dangerous master of disguise.

And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14 (ESV)

The truth is that Satan is pure evil. He only has the absolute worst intentions for you. Satan is NOT your friend. Satan HATES you. Satan literally wants you to burn in hell for eternity. Yet, we let him entice and tempt us with frivolous worldly things because he disguises himself so well. Partying doesn’t seem so bad when Satan convinces you that you’re just young and having fun. Sex before marriage doesn’t seem so bad when Satan convinces you that sex is meaningless or that it’s okay if you’re in love. Drinking, smoking, vaping, and cussing don’t seem so bad when Satan convinces you that it must be okay for you to do if everyone else is doing it. Satan makes sinning seem like so much fun that we forget that we even have an enemy that we are fighting. That is how he successfully pulls us away from God. That is how he succeeds in destroying our lives. Satan isn’t our friend folks. Sinning, as fun, okay, and normal as Satan makes it appears, is detrimental to everything good in our lives and eternal lives.

Wake up people! We have an enemy. His name is Satan. He is the alcohol that you get drunk on. He is the drugs that get you buzzed or high. He is in control of the boy or girl that convinces you to have a sexual relationship before marriage. He is the desire and greed in your mind that says, “I need more, more, more”. He is the anger and hate that you feel when you lash out at friends, family, and strangers.

The Lord opens my eyes more and more everyday. Sometimes He has to open them to the same lies and disguises repeatedly because Satan is so good at what he does. He is so good at stealing, killing, and destroying.

The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10 (ESV)

However, we have hope. The Lord is on our side. He is our strength and sets us free from the power of sin. All we have to do is submit our lives to God, stay in His Word and presence for guidance and wisdom, and seek after Him. It is long overdue for the Church to get off of defense when it comes to Satan. It is time that we play offensivly and get more aggressive. It is time that we beg for the Lord’s mercy and for Him to open our eyes.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3
